Iva was born in Richards, Texas on November 14, 1919, to the late Andy and Martha Williams. She married Willie L. Adams, Sr. in 1935 and moved to Houston, Texas. They started their new life in the First Ward community where they raised two children, Eva and Willie, Jr. They later relocated to the Studewood community. Iva was a great homemaker and ensured her family was well taken care of.

Iva joined the New Hope Baptist Church, then located at 1221 Crockett Street in the First Ward Community. She became highly active in the church and remained active until her demise.

Iva has been recognized as a leader in her community by several organizations. In 2009 she was recognized as a Living Legend of Houston and in 2012 she received the recognition by her church with the Seasoned Citizen award. Over the years she was a member of the Eastern Star, the First Ward Activity Club and served as President of the Williams Family Reunion Committee.

Iva took her journey to her eternal home on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

She leaves family and friends to enjoy her fond memories, one sister, Lula Gene Stroud, one son Willie Lacy Adams, Jr. Grandchildren: Kennard Adams (Stein), Charlotte Grimes, Vaneica Adams (Bobby), Marcus L. Grimes, (Shelia), Gekeya Hazeley, and Gregory Hazeley (Wiyatta); 14 great grandchildren, 32 great great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild, several incredibly special nieces, nephews and cousins, her beautiful church family and a very special and dear friend, Mrs. Dorothy Bell.
