Spider graduated from Mishawaka High School with the class of 1968. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1969 and 1970. For 21 months and 12 days, Spider was an artillery man. He had a life-long love and fascination with fireworks. For 34 years he owned and operated Spiderworks Fireworks in Mishawaka. He was member of the Indiana Fireworks Association, the Indiana Fireworks Dealer Association, and the Pyrotechnics Guild International. He was a life member of Marine Corps League Detachment #095 and also a life member of VFW #360. He belonged to American Legion #161 in Mishawaka, DAV-Elkhart, and VVA #7027.

Spider's wife, Deborah LEMA, preceded him in death along with a step-daughter, Samantha Lema; brothers, Dennis Draves, and Henry Draves, Jr.; and infant sister, Myrnia Marie Draves. He is survived by his and Deborah's daughter, grandchildren, and a brother.

His Celebration of Life was on June 23, 2022, at VFW #360, where there were military honors for a boots-on-the-ground Vietnam veteran.
