Ida Norton, one of the best beloved and most highly esteemed residents of Boone, passed away at the home of her brother, B.F. Norton, in East Peru, Iowa, Monday, September 24th of paralysis. Deceased was born in Lebanon, Madison County, New York, December 23, 1851, and was almost 55 years of age at the time of her death. At the age of ten years she came with her parents to Boone County and settled on a farm south of Boone. After the death of her father she and her mother removed to Boone and lived in one part of the house occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Chas Tucker, who is a sister. After the death of her mother she continued to make her home with Mrs. Tucker. She had been troubled with deafness for many years, but was a patient sufferer under her affliction always. About two years ago she was stricken with paralysis but in the past few months had recovered sufficiently to be able to go about town by herself and to pursue her work as agent for the acoustician, a new hearing device, which had greatly aided her and which she said had unfolded untold new beauties in life for her. About two weeks ago she went to visit at the home of her brother at Peru. She was intending to start home Saturday morning and when one of the family went to call her to take an early train she was found unconscious from a second stroke of paralysis, from which she never recovered except to briefly recognize her sister, Mrs. Tucker, who was summoned at once to her bedside, until death claimed her Monday. The remains were brought to Boone Tuesday evening and taken to the Tucker home, where they remained until Wednesday afternoon, when they were taken to the Universalist church and lay in state there for an hour to permit her numerous friends to pay a last tribute to her memory. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, attesting the general esteem and love of her friends. The funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Mary Girard Andrews of Omaha, a personal friend and the deceased, assisted by the Rev. H.C. Richardson and the Rev. O.H.L. Mason of this city. All spoke glowing tributes to her Christian virtues and loving cheerful disposition. The remains were followed to their last resting place in Linwood cemetery by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. She leaves three sisters Mrs. Mary Ballanger of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. F.P. Wylie of Jordan and Mrs. Chas Tucker of Boone, five brothers C.F. of Peru, Iowa, C.J. of Larned, Kansas, J.D. of Newton Kansas, B.F. of Eagle Grove, Iowa and Scott of Boone, an number of other relatives and an innumerable circle of warm and admiring friends to mourn her death, to all of who is extended the sincere sympathy of the community.
