Ann Lee Allen Underwood, age 88, died Friday, September 25, 2015 in Smithfield Manor. Born July 11, 1927 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late David Monroe and Lyda Partin Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vonza Jackson Underwood, Jr.; sisters, Leah Smith, Lovenia Roberts, Louise Simmons, Eunice Otto, and Ellie Ruth Tyler; and brothers, S.D. Allen, and George "Tommy" Allen. Ann was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her flowers and in the yard. She loved her roses and Asiatic lilies. Ann also enjoyed being with her family. She loved family gatherings, reunions, and cook outs with the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in the chapel of Underwood Funeral Home with Rev. David Sutphin officiating. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Surviving are her sons, Roney Underwood (Twilla Stoler) of Trent Woods, and David Underwood (Dianne) of Smithfield; daughter, Kathy U. Hilburn (Roger) of Selma; brothers, Bill Allen of Smithfield, and Jesse Allen of Lakeland, GA; six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
