John Collins, 71, went to be with his Heavenly Father on January 14, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.

He was born March 17, 1946 in Sour Lake, Texas.

He proudly served his Country as a medic in the Navy. He worked for Richmond Tankcar for 14 years in Quality Assurance before going to work as an inspector for Conoco and later DuPont. John retired from On-Track Rail after working over 40 years in the railway industry.

He was one of the most respected men in the industry until the day he retired.

John had a deep love and passion for competing in BBQ cook-offs and participating in fundraising benefits. He was known as a giving man and will be deeply missed.

John is survived by his wife of 26 years, Carol Burgess, his son John Robert(Anitra), step-daughters Julie and Beth(Steve), sister Shirley, brother Tommy, grandchildren and great grandchildren and their beloved fur baby, Babette who spent many hours comforting John.

John was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Joette Fountain.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Kingwood Funeral Home.
