Stephen was a lawyer and Member of Parliament and architect of the legal attack on the slave trade with his brother-in-law. She is buried with her husband, James Stephen, and her niece. Barbara Wilberforce, in St. Mary's Church Yard. They lived at Summerhouse which neighbored Fleetwood House and Abney House at Abney Park. Summerhouse stood where Summerhouse Road is located.
