Born June 14, 1940 in Elmira, N.Y., he was the son of Ralph Elston Sr. and Annabelle (Fife) Thomas.
Major Thomas was a minister and officer with the Salvation Army, and had served in the following stations: New York State for four years; Clearfield for 5.5 years; Uniontown for three years, Painesville, Ohio for nine years; Barberton, Ohio for one year; Lorain, Ohio for four years, and the final year was in Divisional Headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio for one year until his retirement.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Clearfield.
On Aug. 6, 1960 in Syracuse, N.Y., he wed the former Doris Jones who survives; along with three children, Shirley Mae Sifford and husband Kenneth of Westlake, La., Debra Jean Smeal and husband George of Woodland, and Janice Marie Lallement and husband Williams of Leavenworth, Kans. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers and a sister, Ralph E. Thomas Jr. of Rhode Island and Shirley Mae Landmesser and Donald E. Thomas and wife Joyce, both of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents,; a great grandson, Bentley Graham; and a brother, Walter E. Thomas.
Funeral Services for Major Robert F. Thomas will be held at the Clearfield Salvation Army, 119 Byers St., Clearfield, on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 12 noon, with Major Richard Best officiating.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery of Clearfield.
Friends and family will be received at the Salvation Army of Clearfield on Sunday from 10 a.m. until time of services at 12 noon.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Clearfield Salvation Army, 119 Byers St., Clearfield, PA 16830.
