Deacon Michael "Kim" Scott, 68 of Winchester passed away Tuesday May 17, 2022 in Jacksonville. He was born March 24, 1954 in Jacksonville the son of Patsy Ann Scott. He was raised in the home of his grandmother Irene Scott following the death of his mother. He was a graduate of Winchester High School. He worked as a Policeman for the City of Winchester, was the assistant manager for the Illinois Valley Boatel. He then worked as Assistant Administrator in the Special Plates Division of the Secretary of States Office and then Medical Licenses Manager at the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation from where he retired. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Winchester.
He participated in the Master of Theology Certificate Program at Quincy University and was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois May 20, 2009. Deacon Kim was very active in the work of the Church, his Parish and his community. Working through the local Ministerial Association, as Chaplain for the local Military Honors group, a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving the Free Lunch Monday program, as a Republican County Chairman, ministering to the elderly shut ins and anyone in need. His life, love of neighbor, and calling of service to God reached all in the area as he provided council, prayers and service to those in need. He was a joyful, gentle and generous soul who will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his friends who were his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday May 28, 2022 at 3 pm at St, Mark's Catholic Church in Winchester. Burial will be in St. Marks Catholic Cemetery.
