Brother Ronan Caulson, CP, of St. Ann's Monastery, Scranton, died early Sunday at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, after a brief illness. Brother Ronan would have marked his 50th anniversary as a Passionist brother in May. Born in Dunmore in 1908, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Burke Caulson. He attended Dunmore Grammar School No. 8 and Dunmore High School. He entered the Passionist Novitiate in West Springfield, Mass, in 1932 and professed his vows May 29, 1934. Previous to his entry, he was employed in area mines. As a Passionist, Brother Ronan was in charge of the buildings and grounds maintenance at various monasteries, with a speciality in carpentry and metal working. Before coming to St. Ann's, he served most recently at Holy Cross Seminary, Dunkirk, N.Y. At St. Ann's, he was a familiar figure as he assisted at Masses and church services beginning in the early morning. Surviving are three sisters, Sister M. Laetitia, IHM, of Holy Rosary Convent, Scranton; Sister M. Annchen, IHM, of St. Agnes, Baltimore, and Mrs. Mary McHale of Scranton; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Caulson, Dunmore; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Tom and Frank, and a sister, Catherine; and three nieces in the religious life: Sister Joan Marie, RGS, of Lourdesmont, Sister Mary Ronan, IHM, and Sister Mary Beatrice, IHM, of Scranton. [sic - survivors] The funeral will be conducted Wednesday with Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Monastery Church. Interment, monastery cemetery.
