Ruth Erna Eggers, better known as Ruthie, was born July 22, 1934 on the family farm north of Sioux Falls, to Delbert and Erna (Schneider) Eggers. She attended the Eggers Country School and graduated from Brandon High School in 1952. Upon graduation from high school, Ruthie received a two-year business degree from Nettleton Business College in 1954.
In 1955, Ruthie married James Greenfield. They were blessed with two sons, James and Robert. In 1973, she married Ken Shatter, who passed away in 1986. Ruthie later married a life-long family friend, Eugene Parker. Ruthie and Gene resided in Seal Beach, CA for six years. Following Gene's retirement from Rockwell the couple moved back to her home in rural Sioux Falls.
Ruthie was employed as an executive secretary, accountant, and later became a co-owner of Availability Employment from 1976-1987.
Ruthie served on the board of the Nordland Heritage Foundation, and Center for Western Studies at Augustana College. Ruthie was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and later became a member of Renner Lutheran Church. She was active with various groups during her time as a member of Renner Lutheran.
Her greatest interest and love were her family. Survivors include her husband, Gene; son, Bob (Monica) Greenfield, daughter in-law, Lisa (Bryan Bjerke) Greenfield, all of Sioux Falls; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jamie (Adam) Craghead and their children, Adelynn and Eva; Jared (Micaela) Greenfield and their children, Gavin, Kellen, Noah; Matt (Sami) Greenfield and their son, Carter, all of Sioux Falls, Morgan (Reggie) Thomes and their son, Henry, La Crosse, WI; and Kaden Greenfield, of Minneapolis, MN.
Ruthie is also survived by Gene's sons; David, Ronald, and George Parker and their families, all of California.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Greenfield; a sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Doris and Arthur Huseboe; Gene's parents, Clair and Marjorie Parker; and a sister and brother-in-law, Rod and Delores Vignovitch.
