Mary "Lou" Coleman, 96, of Springfield, died on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at St. John's Hospital.

Lou was born on September 9, 1925, in Manchester, IL, the daughter of William and Mary (Hawkins) Horton. She married Robert "Bob" J. Coleman on January 31, 1948, at St. Bartholomew in Murrayville, IL. He preceded her in death on October 25, 2005.

Lou graduated from Manchester High School. She worked for the State of Illinois for 11 years as a Certified Professional Secretary (CPS). Lou was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P) for 20 years, the Elks Lodge #158, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP), and volunteered for St. John's Hospice. Bob and Lou were competitive ballroom dancers and won various awards. She loved to dance, golf, play cards with friends, but above all else enjoyed spending her time with her family. Lou was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved seeing them win the World Series in 2016.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry Joseph Coleman; daughter, Janet Lou Smith; and siblings, Leroy and Bill Horton and Helen Baird.

Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. with The Very Rev. Daniel Bergbower, V.F. officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
