Shirley Brown Adkins, 86, widow of Darrell C. Adkins of Summerville, SC, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022. Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Shirley's going home service will be on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 3 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens. Shirley was born on October 5, 1935, in Berkeley County, SC, a daughter of Murrett Joseph Brown and Fannie Emma Burbage Brown. She attended Berkeley High School and graduated from Art Beauty College in the top 10% of her class. On December 5, 1953, at Ridge Baptist Church in Summerville, SC, Shirley became the beautiful bride of her most loving husband, Darrell C. Adkins of Lavalette, WV. They were married 62 years. Shirley had a creative, enterprising spirit which led her to owning two businesses. As owner of her hair salon, The Beauty Den, she was greatly loved as a talented hair stylist. She continued to bring style to our town as an owner of a clothing store, known as Angel's Style Shop. Shirley dedicated 30 years of her career life to Wal*Mart, after which she retired to take care of family. Throughout her tenure, Shirley often led or participated in fundraising efforts for MUSC's Children's Miracle Network for which she raised tens of thousands of dollars in her famous "Bake or Take" events. Shirley is survived by one daughter, Vanessa G. Adkins-Droze (Bo) of Summerville; four grandchildren: Jamie B. Limehouse (Jamie), Daniel C. Ross, Jennifer L. Ross (Nash), and Janna L. Fisher (Shawn); six great grandchildren, Tanner A. Herndon, Loyless Limehouse, Dakota C. Garst, Jailey S. Herndon, C. Ellis Walters, and Darrell C. Fisher. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Darrell, one daughter, Penelope A. Batten, nine brothers, and six sisters. Siblings are Marian Attaway, Murrett J. Brown, Jr., Mervin Brown, Ernestine Brown, Aline Free, Jeanette Brown, Vermell Brown, Roosevelt Brown, Burnett Brown, Joseph Brown, Carl Brown, Emmaline Altman, Meredith Brown, Waymond C.
