She was the wife of Abia Lightner she died in Walker Basin which is an area SW of Keyesville, between Havilah and Caliente.
Jemima Sharp Snelling married Abia taylor Lightner on 1 Jul 1830 near Lexington, Missouri. She was the daughter of William Snelling and Sara Scott who had extensive trading business and a plantation. William Snelling died in his prime of yellow fever. The Family moved to Lafayette County Kentucky. Jemima accompanied her husband via wagon train to California. Lavenia was just a baby as they crossed the plains and Abia Jr. was born as they arrived in California 1 Jan 1850. Jemima was a distinguished lady, a gracious hostess and was loved warmly by her family and friends. Jemima's mother, Sara, embarked in the wagon train for California with her two sons, Daniel and Benjamin, but she died on the tedious journey at the age of 89 years. The brothers continued on their way and became men of prominence. Benjamin being the founder of the village of Snelling, in Merced County, CA.
