John (Jack) R. Moss, age 92, of Springfield, went home to be with the Lord on May 10, 2022, at Country Lane Memory Care in Riverton, Illinois.

Jack was born April 28, 1930, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Ralph Roy Moss and Nelia Eugenia Parker-Wight.

He graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1948. After graduation, he held several jobs and then in 1950, enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard and was assigned duty as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. Upon his retirement in 1985, he held the rank of Master Sergeant. He attended West Side Christian Church and South Side Christian Church.

Jack was a devoted A. J. Foyt racing fan and a member of the A. J. Foyt Fan Club, attending many yearly banquets in Indianapolis. His dream was to build a replica Foyt sprint car. Many hours were spent on the craftsmanship of this endeavor and the finished product was a treasure to both Jack and the many others that were involved in the construction. Jack was able to take his car to a Fan Club meeting and A. J. took it for a spin.

Jack loved the Lord and his family and was a loving, kind, and generous father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He was known for his hard work and was a dedicated blood donor. His other interests included traveling, golfing, horse racing, and following the Boston Red Sox baseball team.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jiggs, George, and Don; and sisters, Helen, Ruth, Jessie, and Freda.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Intervetarans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
