Irvin Earl York, 86, of Oblong, IL passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, IN.

He was born in Martin Township, Crawford County, on February 15, 1937, to David Leander Edward York and Sattie Velma (Parrish) York. On April 30, 1960, he married Laura Jo "Boochie" Moffitt, who preceded him in death on July 29, 2012.

Irvin was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Oblong and the Berlin Church, Jasper County Farm Bureau, and the Oblong High School Class of 1954. He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, gardening (especially the tomatoes and sweet corn that he grew). He liked to ride his golf cart around and check in on people and feed his fish in the big pond. Irvin was his kids and grandkids #1 fan and he enjoyed attending all their sporting events.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law David and Jill York, Oblong, IL; five daughters and sons-in-law: Connie and Darrell Meese, Cindy Maus, Tammy and Jason Johnson, Julie and Billy Reese and Jodi York, all of Oblong, IL; thirteen grandchildren Ginger and Nick Voegel, Brad and Michelle Meese, Collin and Ashlee Meese, Lacey and Cody Bliss, Kody and Sarah Maus, Tracy and Jared Pepmeier, Tiffany and Chris Jones, Kyle York, Anthony and Kaydie Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Anden Wallace, Autumn Crouch and Wyatt Reese; twenty four great grandchildren Sarina and Miah Voegel, Gavin, Jackson and Lauren Meese, Raylynn and Renlee Meese, Emerson, Emmett and Everhett Bliss, Neal Maus, Amelia, Claire and Lydia Pepmeier, Waylon, Cali and Avery Ferguson, Elaina, Austin, Sophia and Case Jones, Marcus and Teague Johnson, Amari Johnson, Ariaa Johnson, Nolan Stewart and Weston Goss. He is also survived by sisters and brother-in-law Rosalie Chapman and Vera and Brent Gilliland and a great niece Destiny Budd, whom Irvin and Laura have raised since she was 4 months old.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, sisters Anna Mae Cunningham, Iona Newell, Nina Woods, Edna York, and Lila Plummer; brothers Elder York, Mervin York and Howard York and a son-in-law Kevin Maus.

Celebration of Irvin's life will be held at 10:00am Monday March 6, 2023, at the First Christian Church in Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in Berlin Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00pm Sunday March 5, 2023, at the First Christian Church in Oblong, IL. The family requests that in lieu of flowers an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to either the Oblong Sports Boosters or the Berlin Church.
