I have much more information on him, and his descendants, which I am willing to share with you.

There is much misinformation on Ancestry (and on other websites) about this Robert GILMORE. He's my great-great-great-grandfather. The details posted here have been verified as accurate, and are based on original documents, which were gathered at courthouses, and libraries where the original documents are stored.. (Not based on Ancestry's wrong information.)

Robert GILMORE had no middle name. His parents were Archibald GILMORE (born about 1755) and Jane (unknown surname), (born about 1755). The location of their birth is unknown.
Note that someone posted on Ancestry that they were from Orkney Islands, Scotland. But this is not true. The person who originally posted that, admitted to me that she made it up, because she wanted to fill out her tree! Also, she made up the names for parents of Archibald GILMORE. Archibald GILMORE's parents are unknown. Archibald GILMORE's father is NOT Ephrem GILMORE. The person who first posted that on line, admitted to me that she made it up, to fill up her tree!

This Robert GILMORE's immigration information is unknown. This Robert GILMORE did NOT arrive in the USA in 1801, on the ship The Active. That person is a different Robert Gilmore, who settled in New York City.

This Robert GILMORE does NOT have the middle name of Addison. According to many original documents, this Robert GILMORE had no middle name. Addison GILMORE is a different person who lived in Rockbridge County, Virginia at the same time. Addison GILMORE married Margaret SCOTT. He is not related to this Robert GILMORE, proven through DNA testing of descendants of both men.

Robert GILMORE came to Rockbridge County, Virginia sometime between 1780 (when he was born) and 1819 (when he married Margaret "Peggy" Henry BRADLEY in Rockbridge County, Virginia.

Note that the marriage year that is posted on websites in incorrect. The original marriage certificate, stored at the the Rockbridge County, Virginia courthouse, shows the marriage year as 1819. The county clerk and I have examined the original document, and agree that a mark has been added to the numeral one, changing it from a one to a four ( 1 to a 4). The inks are not the same, which lead us to the conclusion that the numeral had been tampered with. I
More proof that the accurate year is 1819 is this. Copies of original DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) applications show the marriage year as 1819. Also, I have a copy of a hand written family tree, by Edna DIXON, in the 1950s, which shows the marriage year as 1819.

According to Chancery Court records for Rockbridge County, Virginia (located at The Library of Virginia), Robert GILMORE died on a business trip to Illinois. His death is suspicious, because it happened only 3 days after he had to turn over the deed (to his creditor) to his home in Lexington, Virginia. (source: Lexington newspaper on microfilm at Rockbridge Public Library)

A few months later, his home was sold at auction. His wife Margaret "Peggy" Bradley GILMORE moved to the town of Beverly in Randolph County, West Virginia, along with her children who were under the age of 18 (sources: Lexington newspaper on microfilm at Rockbridge Public Library, and property records and court records at the Rockbridge County Courthouse)

Margaret "Peggy" Bradley GILMORE had relatives living in Randolph County, West Virginia. They included her son James Paxton GILMORE, her mother Mary Elizabeth Carlock Whitman BRADLEY, and various WHITMAN relatives.
