Bryan T. Hodges

Bryan T. Hodges was born July 9, 1940 to Tommy and Estelle Hodges. A life-long resident of Eugene, Bryan graduated from South Eugene High School and earned his BA and his law degree from the University of Oregon.

Bryan was in private practice from 1965 through 1974, then was appointed in succession as a pro tem judge, District Court judge and Circuit Court judge for Lane County. Bryan retired in 2006 and achieved senior judge status, and continued to work part time and volunteer in the courts for several years thereafter.

Throughout his career Bryan was an active Bar Association volunteer. He served on many committees for the Lane County, the Oregon State, and the American Bar Associations.

Bryan married Gloria Johnson in 1976, and together they enjoyed music, travel, gardening, and spoiling the family dog until Gloria's death in 2018. Bryan was involved in many community activities over the years, including being a member on the board of directors of the Oregon Bach Festival, and a member of the Eugene-Delta Rotary Club from 1984 - 2008, and its president in 1987 - 1988.

Bryan was committed to his faith and always an active member in his church.

He enjoyed a good game of chess, a great book or TV show on history, and was an ardent scholar of Old Testament Hebrew and New Testament Greek. He practiced martial arts and achieved the rank of black belt in both Jujitsu and Kenpo Karate.

Bryan passed away peacefully at home on April 29, 2022, with his devoted caregiver Stephanie at his side. He is survived by his stepdaughters Christy Johnson and Kathy (Ed) Hougardy, three grandsons, and many beloved friends both locally and around the US.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday June 12th at 1:30pm, First Baptist Church of Eugene, 3550 Fox Meadow Rd. The family is planning to have the service accessible online.
