Gloria was born in LaGrande, OR to Huldah and Reverend Paul Mortimore on July 24, 1933. She attended Colorado Women's College in Denver and then graduated from the University of Washington School of Music in Organ Performance. Gloria subsequently obtained a Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of Oregon. Her career included teaching Elementary School music, but her true passion was her work as a church organist. This included jobs in Sacramento, Seattle, and Eugene; notably Westminster Presbyterian, and First United Methodist Church, where she served for 19 years.

Gloria taught private piano lessons throughout her career. She loved handbells and was a part-time bell choir director and handbell player.

Gloria was married to Franklin Johnson from 1954 to 1974. She later married Bryan Hodges in 1976. Gloria is survived by her husband Bryan, daughters Christine Marie Johnson of Seattle, and Katherine Johnson (Ed) Hougardy of Tukwila WA; and grandsons Timothy Franklin Johnson Dean of Athens GA, Andrew James Hougardy, and Daniel Edward Hougardy both of Tukwila WA.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 16th at 1 pm at Central Lutheran Church. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her name to the Music Department of Central Lutheran Church, 1857 Potter Street, Eugene OR 97403.The Eugene Register-Guard; Jun. 10, 2018.
