BADGER, IA - H. Roger Harvey, 69, of Badger, passed away on October 4, 2012, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2012, at Badger Lutheran Church with Rev. Darryl Landsverk officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Badger Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Lake Lutheran Church near Renwick. The Gunderson Funeral and Cremation Services of Fort Dodge is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Badger Fire Department or the Paula J. Baber Hospice House.

Herman Roger Harvey, the son of Herman R. and Esther (Gangstead) Harvey, was born on February 24, 1943, in Fort Dodge. He was a member of Lake Lutheran Church where he was baptized on April 4, 1943 and was later confirmed there. He attended Goldfield Schools and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1961. He was a member of the Air National Guard. On September 7, 1968, he married Ellen Joyce Malaise at Lake Lutheran Church. They made their home in Badger. Upon their move to Badger, Roger and Ellen joined Badger Lutheran Church. Roger was actively involved in the church. He served as a deacon, little league advisor, Sunday School teacher, and enjoyed visiting shut-ins and preaching the word of God at Kennedy Park on Sundays during the summer. In 1965 he started working at Shimkat Motor Company where he worked full-time until May 2010. In 1971 he joined the Badger Fire Department where he served until retiring in 2011. He also served his community in many other capacities.

Roger is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ellen, of Badger; two sons: Chris, and his wife, Camille, and their daughters, Lauren and Norah, of Granger, Indiana; and Ryan, and his wife, Jill, and their sons, Philip and Benjamin, of Hampton, Iowa; one sister, Grace Morris, of Storm Lake, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Esther; and his brothers: Elmer, Raynard, and Donald Harvey.
