Elijah Barber, Jr., 67, of 7508 Hwy. 27, Buchanan, passed away at his residence on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004. He was born Oct. 6, 1936 in Mitchell County, Ga. Mr. Barber was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hurley Barber; son, Russell Matthew Barber; father Elijah Barber, Sr.; brothers, Wayne, Eugene and Truman Barber; sister, Sandra Gail Barber and a grandson. Surviving are: sons, Elijah Barber, III, Randy Dwight Barber and Wymon Earl Barber; daughters, Clara Ann Redding, Chenell Hurstine Pierce; mother, Sarah Elizabeth Barber; brothers and sisters, Annette Hamilton, Edna Barrentine, Sue Hulsey, Josephine Edison, Linda Myrick, Nancy Baggett, Deloris Smith, Terry Barber and Danny Barber and 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. in the Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating. Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Timmy Ledbetter, Thomas Ledbetter, Billy Reeds, Edward Eason, Stewart David, Shannon Brantley and Jim Welchel. Gammage Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
