Born in Clockville, NY to Frances Van Slyke by Mr. James Green. Married 1st 1895 to Fred Gordon, 2d 1903 Thomas M. Hewitt, mother of Clarence, Maude & Frances Gordon, and Ethel, Infant, Mattie, Nina, Reuben, Harold & Hayes Hewitt. She died as a result of a heart attack, complicated by heart disease an hour and a half after she became hysterical when in a fender bender in an auto during a blizzard, also riding in the car was her grandson in law Joseph Ponto and grandson James Van Slyke. Matie was buried in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Merrillsville, NY. Also survived by step father Albert Sayles.
