Elizabeth shares a tombstone with her husband, William. They were Oregon Pioneers. There are at least 3 known burial sites on Winkle Buttes. One is down low on the south side of the smaller of the two Winkle Buttes. It is overgrown; visitors are not welcome, and it has trees that have fallen and a lot of poison oak.

Another was on top of that smaller Winkle Butte; and the previous owner of the property (according to the new owner) let his cattle up there and they trampled the tombstones. Kind of sad, eh?

The third, is the known burial site of only two people, William McBee and later his wife Elizabeth McBee. They may have been others, but they are not marked. This third one is on top of the larger Winkle Butte.

I can almost see these Buttes from where I live. If I had a window on the north side of my home, I could.

The fence around the grave was patented in 1860, and is still lovely, though falling over and in disrepair.

Birth date is shown as 1803, on Benton County Cemetery Internet sites. It is also very difficult to read whether it is 1803 or 1808 or the tombstone. Whoever did typewritten records probably misread the 1808 as 1803, but it seems that 1808 is correct. She is shown as AGED 85 years. She outlived her husband by quite some time.
The information that she was 85 years old could easily be explained by 1803 and 1808 often being hard to read on old tombstones. It was 1808. *******************************************************
Information between the rows of asterisks was gathered and contributed by Karen Smith.
Elizabeth was the daughter of John Milligan and Abigail Rigg.
She had one sister, Susaanah who married Thomas McBee the brother of William; after Thomas passed away Susannah married Alanson Miller.
Elizabeth was the mother of eight children which is listed on William's grave information.

Additonal contribution by another person, is below between the next set of asterisks. The person who wrote it was not logged into F.A.G.; so no user name is available to me. I did receive an e-mail, but I will not post it here:
Elizabeth Milligan McBee was my 3rd great grandmother. According to her obituary, she was born March 8, 1808, not 1803, which would match the age on her grave stone. Elizabeth Milligan married William McBee on June 12, 1828, in Stark County, Ohio. William and Elizabeth were the parents of 10 children (not 8): Rachel Ann, John Wesley, Thomas, George, Elizabeth, William Henry, Joseph, David, James P. (Doc), and Nancy Jane. Elizabeth and William McBee moved from Stark County, Ohio, to Ray County, Missouri, in 1840. They traveled the Oregon Trail from Ray County, Missouri, to the Oregon Territory in 1852 along with other family members. Elizabeth and William settled Donation Land Claim Certificate 4269 on the west side of the Willamette River about 8 miles south of Corvallis in 1854.
