William shares a tombstone with his wife Elizabeth Milligan McBee. They were Oregon Pioneers. There are at least 3 known burial sites on Winkle Buttes. One is down low on the south side of the smaller of the two Winkle Buttes. It is overgrown; visitors are not welcome, and it has trees that have fallen and a lot of poison oak.

Another was on top of that smaller Winkle Butte; and the previous owner of the property (according to the new owner) let his cattle up there and they trampled the tombstones. Kind of sad, eh?

The third, is the known burial site of only two people, William McBee and later his wife Elizabeth McBee. They may have been others, but they are not marked. This third one is on top of the larger Winkle Butte.

I can almost see these Buttes from where I live. If I had a window on the north side of my home, I could.

The fence around the grave was patented in 1860, and is still lovely, though falling over and in disrepair.

William McBee's death date is shown on some Benton County Cemetery posts as 1865. I have been there and witnessed it myself. It shows 1862. AGED 61 years; so I put birth year as 1801.
