She was born in Easton, PA, to the late Mary Elizabeth Allis Eaton and William Clement Eaton, PhD. She graduated from Westover School (Middlebury, CT), the University of Kentucky, and received a Masters Degree in Art History from the University of Louisville. She also attended Vassar College as a scholarship recipient, and studied as a PhD candidate at Indiana University.
Mrs. Bennett was Curator of Education at the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Speed Museum. She also taught art history at the college level.
She was a member of the Filson Historical Society, the Junior League of Louisville and was a Trustee for the Little Loomhouse.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, William Clement Eaton, Jr. and Clifton Packer Eaton.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Henry R. Bennett; daughters, Elizabeth Roberts Bennett Lively (Thad), Anne Eaton Bennett Clarke (Percy), Virginia Allis Bennett Leeds (Roy) and Ruth Hough Bennett; grandchildren, Henry Pierce Lively, William Eaton Lively, Andrea Allis Leeds and Samuel Eaton Bennett and sisters-in-law, Margaret Eaton and Jane Eaton.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday August 8, 2015 at St. Luke's Chapel of the Episcopal Church Home, 7504 Westport Road. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Burial will be private.
Memorials may go to the charity of your choice.
