He was a prominent Baptist minister and the former chaplain of the Louisiana State legislature. He had served as assistant pastor of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio for the past three and a half years.
He was a graduate of Louisiana College and of the New Orleans Seminary College. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Army Chaplain Corp and served as task force chaplain in the northern Pacific fleet division invasion force.
Prior to San Antonio he served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hot Springs for eleven years.
He is survived by his wife, Lily Dodge; a son, John Dodge; two brothers, Luther and Clifton Dodge; and three sisters, Annie Parker, Bertha White, and Emeline Cripps.
