She was born March 25, 1932, in Douglas Township, Iowa, to Lloyd William Rose and Madelyn Henrietta Calhoun Rose. She grew up in Iowa, graduating from Moravia High School in 1950.
On Sept. 30, 1950, she married Don E. Sears in Moravia. The Searses moved to Longmont from Ankeny, Iowa, in 1968. They later divorced.
Providing for her children and grandchildren was her focus in life. She made the upbringing of her children a priority, seeing to their education and well-being. She had several careers throughout her life, including working for the NSA in Washington, D.C., baby-sitting numerous children over the years in Longmont and a 17-year career with Kmart.
Mrs. Sears also enjoyed her free time. She loved vacations to Hawaii, creating crocheted afghans and baby blankets for people she knew, and hosting family meals during holidays and weekly gatherings. She was proud of her Scottish and Irish heritage and enjoyed attending the annual Scottish Highlands Festival in Estes Park. She also vacationed in Scotland.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Sears is survived by two sons, William and Bryan Sears of Longmont; a daughter, JoAnne Sears of Loveland; two brothers, Merton Rose and his wife Vada of Oshkosh, Neb., and William Rose and his wife Judy of Longmont; six grandchildren, Mandy, W.L. "Cody", Bobby, Zach and Joey Sears, and Emma Cook; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Sears.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, with chaplain Jackie Hibbard of the Visiting Nurse Association officiating.
Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
