MONEY, HELEN STEWART

Helen was born in 1915 and reared in Moulton, Alabama. She was the daughter of Pearl Windham Stewart and James Ernest Stewart. She attended the University of Alabama. In 1933 she married Joe John Money from Scottsboro, Alabama and they moved to Birmingham where she lived the rest of her life. There she worked as a partner in Joe Money Machinery Co. until she was in her nineties.

Throughout her life, Helen was active in church and volunteer work. Her particular passion was the American Red Cross. A skilled driver, she drove the Red Cross Bloodmobile and van many miles transporting needy patients from outlying areas to and from hospitals and physician offices. During WW II, she frequently drove our soldiers to wherever they needed to be. In addition to transportation, she gave her blood, lots and lots of it. Helen received several awards for her service and many pins for the gallons of blood she donated.

At Canterbury Methodist Church, Helen was a longtime and faithful member of the Fred Kelly Sunday school class. She, and her husband Joe, frequently invited the whole class to picnics at their home on Lake Guntersville. She also acted as attendance recorder for several years. In addition she knitted in the "knit wit" class which she enjoyed. She was a founding member of the Camellia Garden Club and active for many years.

Helen was predeceased in death by her only sibling, Charles Windham Stewart, in 1984 and shortly thereafter by her beloved husband of fifty-two years, Joe John Money. Survivors include her daughter, her son, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
