Omurtag (or Omortag) was a Great Khan of Bulgaria from 814 to 831. His father Krum, was Khan of Bulgaria. d. 13 Apr 814. Omurtag is known as "the Builder". Born around 770. Died in 831 possibly in his Palace of Omurtag, Turgovishte.

"Even if a man lives well, he dies and another one comes into existence. Let the one who comes later upon seeing this inscription remember the one who had made it. And the name is Omurtag, Kana subigi. Let God make him live 100 years."
