CARTHAGE - Graveside services for Elizabeth White, 74, of Carthage, will be held at 2 p.m. today, January 9, 2008, at Restland Memorial Park, with the Rev. Don Cocklin officiating. Services are under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home.

Mrs. White died Monday, January 7, 2008, at her home in Carthage.

Dora Elizabeth Childs White was born March 19, 1933, in the Dotson Community of Panola County. She was the elder of two children born to the marriage of Sam Doyle and Annis Lucille Moseley Childs. She was schooled in rural Gaston, later graduated from Carthage High School with the Class of 1950 and afterwards attended Panola Junior College.

Her parents founded the First Christian Church in Carthage where Dr. J.W. Stephens married Elizabeth to William Ervin White as the first bride in the new sanctuary on June 18, 1948. Together, they raised two children in a loving Christian home and celebrated more than 59 years of marriage.

Elizabeth worked in bookkeeping and tax offices as secretary to Q.M. Martin through C.I.S.D. and later the school tax office and Panola General Hospital as secretary to the administrator and the board, retiring in 1995. Elizabeth was active in Bridge clubs, traveled extensively and served as a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Ervin White of Carthage; son, David Lynn White and wife, Susan of Huntsville; daughter, Debra Kay Willis and husband, Sonny of Fairfield; sister, Jean Childs Reeves and husband, Charles of Longview; grandsons, Jeremy Brian Bagley and wife, Detra of Fairfield, and Thomas David White of Huntsville; great-granddaughters, Ashton Elizabeth Bagley and Savannah Kay Bagley, both of Fairfield; sister-in-law, Katherine Horn of the Murvaul Community; special caregiver for many years, Della Gates; caregivers, DeeDee, Carla, Jennifer and JoAnn; many other relatives; and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Steve Reeves, Sam Reeves, Scott Reeves, Thomas White, Jeremy Bagley, Chris Horn and Bobby Hudson.
