THOMAS ROBERTS, (Bear Creek, Patapsco River, Baltimore County), ranger appointed by Capt. John Oldton as a "well qualified person & good woods man & fit to be Imployed in Ranging for the Public Service of this Province" on Mar 23, 1694/5; lieutenant who swore allegiance to the King & Queen of England in 1696; deposition on Jul 3, 1696 stated "that Capt. Oldton's party of Rangers being at one time in, and the Lieutenant's party out unpon Ranging, he did not goe out to Relieve the Lieutenant's party according to appointment. Where upon the Lieutenant's party came in, and so both parties were in at one time. That the Rangers do not live at the place Setled beyond the inhabitants, but that they Come in among the inhabitants (name listed once as "Thomas Robards"); born circa 1656 (ages about 40 when deposed in 1696), died testate by Feb 1, 1709/10 (date of probate; Elizabeth Roberts, widow). {Ref: ARMD 20:205, 20:452, 20:544; BBCF:547; MDWB 13:31}
