Loren Menning, son of Everett and Gertie (Beukelman) Menning, was born on a farm near Corsica, SD on July 17, 1932. He attended country school later graduating from Corsica High School in 1951. After his schooling, Loren was employed at the Corsica Coop. He entered the US Army on January 20, 1953 serving in Germany after basic training and was honorably discharged on December 16, 1954. Loren returned to Corsica and continued working at the Corsica Coop.
Loren was united in marriage with Wilma Vander Zee on June 28, 1957 at the New Holland Christian Reformed Church. The couple made their home in Corsica. While in Corsica, Loren purchased and operated a service station from 1958 to 1962, known as Loren's Standard. Later in 1962 the couple moved to Mitchell, SD where he was employed at White Drug Store eventually managing the camera department. Harold's Camera Shop opened a store in Mitchell which Loren managed until the mid 80s. He purchased the camera shop in the mid 1980's and was the owner/operator of Loren's Camera Shop until retiring in 1999.
In his retirement Loren worked at Jack's Campers delivering campers and for several years was employed at Vern Eide delivering cars, a job he truly loved. Loren enjoyed traveling, bowling, golf, playing pool, yard work and gardening.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Mitchell where he has served as a Deacon and Elder. Loren was also a member of the camera club and the James Valley Senior Citizens, the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Bowling Association.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 64 years, Wilma Menning, Mitchell, SD; two sons, Greg (Kandace) Menning, Waco, TX, Kurt (Rosemary) Menning, Mitchell, SD; two grandchildren, Andy (Samantha) Menning, Mitchell, SD, Valerie (Andrew) Parrott, Sioux Falls, SD; five great grandchildren, Bryton, Alec and Hallie Menning, Leon and Vivian Parrott; four sisters, Cleone Groen, Atlanta, GA, Mary (Duane) Kuyper, Sioux Falls, SD, Loretta (D'Orsay) Winthers, Mitchell, SD, Cheryl (Tom) Manchester, Harvard, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruby Overweg; and his in-laws, Dave and Nellie Vander Zee.
