Carmichael, California - Wilson Louis Babby, 86, passed away on March 14, 2022. Will was born on January 25, 1936, in Pine Ridge, S. Dakota to Maurice Babby and Isabelle Livermont. He was a member of the Oglala Lakota Nation.
Will served in the USAF from 1954-58. After his service, he became an Engineer Coordinator at Aerojet for 13 years. Then he changed careers and worked as V-Principal and Principal for schools in the Grant USD and was involved with Indian education programs. His proudest opportunity was to serve as Deputy Assoc. Secretary in Washington DC, coordinating the Office of Indian Education. After retiring, Will enjoyed traveling around the world to Italy, Alaska, New Zealand, and many trips to Cabo San Lucas with his wife.
Will was preceded in death by wife, Fayetta (2019), and sons Patrick Babby, Kevin Babby, and daughter Erin Babby.
Will is survived by daughter Kelly Simpson and sons Darren Babby, Shannon (Tracy) Babby, and Terry Babby, and stepdaughter Shawn White. He also leaves nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, as well as former students and mentees, and of course his pride and joy, "Precious," his little dog.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Grace on April 1st at 10 a.m., 911 Park Blvd., West Sacramento, 95691. Viewing will be held there on March 31st from 4-8 p.m.
Burial to follow at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA (some travel will be provided), followed by a Celebration of Life at the Moose Lodge, 3240 Jefferson Blvd. W. Sac (1:30-4 p.m.).
