Mrs. Julia Ann Sherman Abernathy, age 89, of Kingston passed away Monday morning, March 21, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Abernathy was born in Kingston, Georgia, May 8, 1932, daughter of the late Calvin Pierce Sherman and Thamer Viola Baxter Sherman. She was a member of The Church at Liberty Square where she was previously a Sunday school teacher and active in the ladies ministry. A lifelong residence of Kingston, Mrs. Abernathy was a member of the Kingston Woman's History Club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting and was a talented seamstress. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bardy Thomas "B.T." Abernathy, Sr, and brother, James Sherman.

She is survived by her loving children, Rana and Ron Gwin, Denese and Dan Clark, and Bardy Thomas Abernathy, Jr. and Bet Ramsay; grandchildren, Heather and Dwight Motes, Dawn and Chris Brock, Jeromy and Rosemary Gwin, Julie and Michael Collier, and Ryan Williams; great grandchildren, Clark Motes, Anna Grace Brock, Catherine, Maggie, and Ellis Gwin, Will and Luke Collier, and Alexis and Kannon Williams; sisters, Ima Martin and Elaine Mayes; brother, Charles Sherman and several nephews and nieces. Her longtime caregivers, Betty Jo Boston, Linda Cagle, and Melissa Cagle.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25, 2022, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Dr. Jacob King officiating. Interment will follow in the Kingston Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeromy Gwin, Clark Motes, Chris Brock, Dwight Motes, Michael Collier, and Mark Lee.

The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
