Bardy "B.T." Abernathy
(September 30, 1927 - August 31, 2015)

Mr. Bardy Thomas “B.T.” Abernathy, Sr., age 87, of East Railroad Street, Kingston passed away Monday morning (August 31, 2015) at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Abernathy was born in Cartersville, Georgia, September 30, 1927, son of the late Luther Franklin Abernathy and Bertha Porter Abernathy. He was a member of The Church at Liberty Square where he served many positions as trustee, council member, and member of the counting team. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict and was the Boy Scout Master for Troup 198 in the 1960’s. A man of many trades, he was a retired welder from General Electric, owner and operator of Abernathy Grocery in Kingston, and as most will know a very talented taxidermist. He also was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working in his yard. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather he cherished his wife and loved his family. He lived to glorify his Savior, what an amazing life, and what a more amazing eternity. He did life right! Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Clayton Abernathy.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Julia Sherman Abernathy of Kingston; daughters and sons-in-law, Rana and Ron Gwin of Cartersville and Denese and Dan Clark of Cartersville; son, Bardy Thomas Abernathy, Jr. of Adairsville; grandchildren, Jeromy and Rosemary Gwin, Julie and Michael Collier, Heather and Dwight Motes, Dawn and Chris Brock, and Ryan Williams; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Rawlin and Margaret Abernathy of Cartersville; nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at 2:00 PM from The Church at Liberty Square, Cartersville, with Dr. Joe E Edwards and Dr. Jacob King officiating. Interment will follow in the Kingston Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00PM. Pallbearers will be Brian Lee, Mark Lee, Wayne Cline, Bill Rollins, Jimmy Martin, and Danny Pickard. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Collins, Randy Johnson, Charles Sherman, Mike Abernathy, Rocky Abernathy, Jerry Boston, Tom Mayes, Morris Motes, and Martin Gomish.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
