Martha Braden of Maroa dies at 102

MAROA -- Martha Angeline Braden, 102, of Maroa died 2:45 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) in Lincoln Manor Nursing Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Maroa Cemetery. Memorials: Maroa Christian Church.

Mrs. Braden was born April 5, 1900, in Wayne County near Mount Erie, the daughter of William Lincoln and Emma Armstrong McCleary. She was one of eight children and at the age of 6, she lost her mother as a result of typhoid fever. She enjoyed working with her flowers and had the special talent of repairing and dressing antique dolls. She pieced many quilts, loved to read and had a great sense of humor. She was affiliated with Maroa Christian Church and a member of Macon County Home Extension. She married Ernest Braden on Oct. 14, 1917, in Macon County. They lived on a farm west and south of Maroa and were married almost 64 years. He passed away in 1981.

Surviving are her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cisco and Dorothy Braden, both of Maroa; Grace Braden of Decatur; Florence Braden of Lenexa, Kan.; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and five sisters.

She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Thanks to those at Lincoln Manor who gave special care to Martha.
