Born on November 10, 1929 in Pulaski, IN, she was the youngest of seven children of the late Rowe O. and Iva Mae (Wilson) Degner.
After receiving her master's degree from Ball State University, Betty taught at the high school level for over 30 years, the majority of which were at Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation. Married for 52 years to Marion B. Hughes, she raised four children and enjoyed traveling, fishing, card playing, painting and craft work. As one friend stated, "She will be remembered for her wonderful way of living."
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and six siblings. Betty will be remembered and missed by four children; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A private family memorial service with interment at Pulaski Presbyterian Community Cemetery in Pulaski, IN is scheduled for later this year.
