Son of John Van Brunt and Jerusha Hedges, husband of Harriet Norton, whom he married about 1833, and father of Franklin Norton, Harriet Jerusha (Harry S. Marlor), and Horace Van Brunt.

"John, b. Nov. 17, In 2; d. Sept. IG, 1814; m. Jerusha, dau. of Elias (Ezekiel) Hedges, of Brookhaven, b. Dec. 8, 1781; d. Dec. 15, 1851. Inherited his father's homestead farm, on which he resided and cultivated. Dying intestate, his daughters sold their interest in their father's farm for $500 each, to their brothers."

"Jacob, b. October 9, 1808, d. 1860, being accidentally drowned, m. Harriet, or Hetty, daughter of Elias Norton, of Mount Sinai, Suffolk County, said Elias being a son of George Norton, a brave soldier under Gen. Putnam at the Battle of Long Island, in the revolution. On the division of his father's farm, Jacob obtained the south end, containing about 140 acres, which he sold to his brother John. Had children: Franklin N., a sea captain, who m. a daughter of Nelson Norton, of Brookhaven; Harriet Jerusha, m. Henry S. Marlor, a broker in Wall Street, New York; and Horace; some of whom reside at Setauket."
