John Everett Ussery Jr., 76, was born April 21, 1941 in Pinehurst to the marriage of John Everett Ussery Sr and Julia Mae Lampley Ussery. He departed this earth on April 19, 2018.

John graduated from high school in Heidelberg, Germany, and joined the U.S. Air Force soon after. He was eventually stationed in Texas, where he met and married Flora Davis. After their divorce, he stayed in Dallas for a few years before moving to Pennsylvania Dutch Country and then Denver, Colo. before settling in North Carolina.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Southern Pines, and looked forward to his Sunday school class as well as eating breakfast at "Mac's" any chance he got.

John enjoyed fishing, hunting, two-stepping and building rifles, and was a master at tying fishing rods. He became very interested in genealogy and shared all his findings with anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Miller, and husband Kenny, of Caddo Mills, Texas; sister, Mary Ussery White, and husband Reid of Chapel Hill; brother, Richard Ussery, and wife Melinda of Anchorage, Alaska; his grandchildren, Tyler Sullivan, Madison Miller and Cheridan Miller, all of Caddo Mills, Texas; his nieces, Jess White and husband Jordan, and Kat White, all of whom reside in North Carolina.

A service to celebrate John's life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25 at Boles Funeral Home Chapel, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave, Southern Pines, with Dr. David Helms officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.

The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made the First Baptist Church, 200 East New York Ave., Southern Pines, NC. 28387.
