She was first married to James Germany Heard in Wilkes, Georgia on 11 Mar 1808. They had two children, James and Nancy, before James Heard died in 1811. They had moved to Mississippi from Kentucky, where they accompanied her father, George Washington Darden, to Livingston. After his death, they moved on to Mississippi.
