Barbara was born June 5, 1935 in Tyler, Texas to Walter John and Norma Lee (Lones) Bowler. She earned her B.A. degree from SMU, Dallas, Texas and developed a love of teaching first graders to read. She followed her calling of teaching first grade in several Christian and public schools, most recently Rhinehart Elementary in Rockwall.
She married James (Jim) C. Thrash III February 1, 1958, and the couple was married 59 years before he preceded her in death in 2017. Barbara was a Christian and a faithful church member. She attended First Presbyterian in Tyler, Texas where she grew up. Her most recent church was Lake Pointe in Rockwall. She enjoyed her monthly supper club with friends from church and the elementary school where she taught.
Barbara treasured sending cards to family and friends for anniversaries and birthdays, and through this, maintained many lifelong relationships. Her love for Jesus was easily seen in her love for children and her many friends. Her sweet spirit will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her sister, Beverly Marie Sword, and her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Philip J. Thrash and wife, Diane; granddaughter Kelsey; and son Paul Thrash, all of Chesapeake, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider giving a gift to CBN, the Christian Broadcasting Network (www1.cbn.org), or BGEA, The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BillyGraham.org), both of which are doing outreach to the Ukraine in Eastern Europe.
