As a boy, William O. Viney moved with his parents, John and Elizabeth Martin Viney, to Champaign County, Ohio. He later moved to Indianapolis where he married Dorinda Bay in 1827. They later moved to Illinois, living in and around Bloomington for many years. After Dorinda's death, William moved with his son Edwin and his daughter Lucinda Helen Cox to Garfield, Washington where he died at the age of seventy-eight.
