Murel F. Jackson, age 66, of Metamora passed away at 8:31 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 28, 1941, in Peoria to Arch L. and Stella (Crouch) Jackson. He married Shirley M. Faircloth on Nov. 27, 1964, in Peoria. She survives.
Surviving are two daughters, Christine Daniel of Kentucky and Terrie and Dave Meeks of Roanoke; three sons, Richard E. and Anita Whitby of East Peoria, Robert E. and Susan Whitby of Peoria and Grady C. Jackson of Metamora; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Fritz and Frances Cassidy, both of Peoria.
He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and one brother.
Murel worked as a machinist at Caterpillar and also in its ESP program, retiring after 30 years. He also did Union work for Local 974. After retirement he worked as a driver for Peoria Charter. He also was a school bus driver for the Metamora School District, last working in 2007.
He was a 21-year member and past master for Taylor Masonic Lodge No. 98 in Washington, Ill.
He was of the Methodist faith.
