Mcallen - Abel Benavidez, 89, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 in McAllen. Mr. Benavidez was preceded in death by his parents, Aniceto and Virginia Benavidez; sister, Lena Benavidez Lannon.

Abel Benavidez was a Korean war veteran. He served in the Army and Marine Corps. His decorative awards including purple heart and several service metals. He spent most of his life traveling and over 20 yrs in the city of mcallen where he was loved and highly known by the community . Abel was outgoing and friendly to everyone, a people person. His sense of humor would cause laughter and smiles always. He would always lend a helping hand to anyone who needed. He will be dearly missed.

Mr. Benavidez is survived by three children, Orlando Benavidez, George Benavidez, Virginia Benavidez Galindo; numerous grandchildren; cousins, Bertha (Gabriel) Benavidez, Santiago (Olivia) Benavidez, Debra (Carlos) Benavidez Reyes, Denis (Arimon) Sanchez and Jaime Zavala.

Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission with full military honors.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels.
