GARY W. NELSON — KEYSER — Gary W. Nelson, Sr., 71, of Front Street, Keyser, WV, died Thursday, March 3, 2022 at UPMC Western Maryland, Cumberland, MD.

Born on April 26, 1950 in Shaw, WV, he was a son of the late John Harvey and Elsie Marie (Kent) Nelson. He also was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Sylvia Marie (Armstrong) Nelson on May 9, 2020 and two brothers, Bill and Johnny Nelson.

Gary, alongside his late wife, owned and operated Nelson Concrete Construction in Keyser for over 40 years. His family reflected that in all probability, there isn't a single street in Keyser that hasn't had some type of concrete work on it done by Nelson Concrete over the years. He was a member of Bonnieview Ministries and he enjoyed fishing and working hard, but his favorite times were those spent with family.

Surviving is his son, Gary W. Nelson, Jr. and wife Regina; his grandson, Aaron Nelson and wife Cierra; his granddaughter, Faith Edgar and his great grandchildren, Connor, Ella, Eli and Cleo, all of Keyser. Also surviving is a brother, Russell Nelson and wife Diane of Baltimore, MD; three sisters, Helen Harvey and husband Robert of Elk Garden, WV, Hazel Pearson of Berryville, VA and Shirley Tichnell and husband Joe of Swanton, MD and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at Bonnieview Ministries on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Robert Fazzalorre and Pastor Daniel Garlitz officiating. Friends will also be received at the church one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service will be streamed live on the Smith Funeral Homes Facebook page beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Interment will be in the Sinclair Memorial Park, Cross, WV.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Bonnieview Ministries, 47 Penny Lane Keyser, WV 26726.
