Ervin Erich Glinsmann, 81, of Luzerne, died of pancreatic cancer Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at his home. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Elim Lutheran Church, Marshalltown, by Pastor Karen Cluts; and 10 a.m. Friday, Lutheran Church, Loup City, Neb. Burial: Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Ashton, Neb., with military rites. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine.
He is survived by his wife, Darlyne; daughters, Polly (Dick) Lowder of Minneapolis, Deb (Dennis) Beck of LeGrand and Jackie (Rick) Rupp of Luzerne; son, Ike Glinsmann of Washington, Iowa; sisters, Ruby (Dallas) Niederklein of Tobias, Neb., Shirley (Gene) Fichen of Elkhorn, Neb., and Ethel (Dale) Rasmussen of Windsor, Colo.; brothers, Merle (Virginia) of Loup City, Neb., the Rev. Al (Marion) of Rapid City, S.D., David (Arlene) and Wendell (Frances), both of Rockville, Neb., and Donald (Rachel) of Wolbach, Neb.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Ervin was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Ashton, Neb., to Peter and Laura Obermiller Glinsmann. He graduated from Ashton High School and Concordia College in Seward, Neb., and received his master's degree from the University of Iowa. He served in the Army from January 1946 to March 1947 and was assigned to Germany. On Aug. 27, 1951, he married Darlyne Austin in Kallispel, Mont. He taught at the Lutheran Schools in Luzerne and Newhall for 30 years. He was a former mayor of Luzerne, and was the Veterans Affairs administrator in Benton County for several years. He was a member of the American Legion and was one of the founders of Central Lutheran School in Newhall.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
