He went to Fair Park High School where he played and excelled in baseball, basketball, and football. After his high school years, he went on to play baseball, basketball and football at La Tech University starting as short stop, point guard and quarterback.

He would not tell you, but there are few in this area that were any better all-around athletes than Jimmy. After college he played several years of AAA baseball for the Yankees organization.

Later in life, he picked up tennis and played several times a week. He loved his time playing with friends and family and continued playing until the age of 80. Jimmy used the sport of tennis to expand his friendships and gained many relationships over the years. He is loved and admired by so many that had the privilege of knowing him.

After college and a few years of playing AAA baseball, Jimmy married the love of his life, Jeanne Kelso Orton and decided it was time to begin his professional career. Jimmy was a teacher, head football coach and assistant baseball coach at his alma mater, Fair Park High School, for 17 years.

Jimmy was still called "Coach" by so many that he touched during his coaching years. After his coaching career, Jimmy went on to become the head of transportation of Caddo Parish Schools. He worked there 17 years until he retired in June of 2000.

His patience and humbleness will always be a great example for anyone to follow. Jimmy was a great Christian man who loved the Lord and attended Mangum Methodist Church faithfully until his illness.
