He was born at Martha Jefferson Hospital on December 12, 1947, the son of late William H. Payne and Dorothy E. Payne. He was preceded in death by his niece, Rebecca "Becky" Watkins, and brother, Prentiss "Priny" Payne.
He is survived by* his loving wife and his daughter and her husband; and his son. He is survived by two grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, brother, and sister-law; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Pete was a proud member of the US Navy and a long-time employee of CenturyLink. Many would know Pete form his calm demeanor and peaceful personality. He was a wonderful brother, husband, father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.
Family night will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville, Virginia. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church at 1794 Richmond Road Troy, Virginia 22974.
