:---A ppointed as Lieutenant on 4th December 1939. He served in the 2/5 Infantry Battalion in Middle East, Greece and New Guinea.
:---Promoted to Captain on 5th July 1941. He was awarded an MBE for "Devotion to duty in a marked degree. Has always placed the rapid provision and maintenance of intercommunication before any consideration of personal danger or discomfort."
:---Reported as missing in action, believed drowned, but this was corrected to "Killed in Action" on 29th January 1943 in New Guinea.
