Thomasena "Sena" Johnston was born March 8, 1870 in the Ontario Province of Canada.

Solomon Valentine Blake, son of James Blake Sr. who was originally from Northern Ireland, had immigrated from Albemarle Township, Ontario in 1888 to the Island of Lopez, in the Salish Sea or Puget Sound - off the coast of Washington State. He had followed his father and some of his siblings to the Lopez. But he went to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to marry Thomasena V. Johnston on June 19, 1894.

Thomasena "Sena" was the 7th born child of Irwin Johnston b: abt 1827 and Sharah Ann Errington b: abt 1836 - both born in Canada. Her mother had a total of 8 children.

1894 her son Roy Vernon Blake married Ester Mae Prestholt from Iowa. The couple gave her 3 grandchildren: Gordon Irwin Blake Dec 9, 1992 (Gordon died at age 28-1/2 years of age); Donald Vernon Blake (lived to age 65 yr 4 months and married a lady by the name of Evelyn) b: July 19, 1925; Emma May Blake b: Aug 5, 1927 (married Ralph M. Bartholomew in 1948 and had 5 children but after Thomasena's death)

Census of 1900 Lopez Island, San Juan, Washington shows 4 of the Blake family in a row. Living near was her Sister-in-law Thomasena Blake age 27 & husband Albert Biggs (owned their home but it was mortgaged), then she age 30 (married 5 years - recorded birth of 3 children but only 2 living: Roy Vernon Blake age 4-5 yr & Irwin Blake age 2-3 years. * age depends on time of year of census & their birth) and her husband Solomon Valentine Blake age 34 (owned their home but was free of mortgage). Next was her brother-in-law James Jr. age 41 and wife Susannah (rented a house), then her father-in-law James Blake Sr. age 73 (owned his farm free of mortgage) and his brother George age 70. Sister-in-law Thomasena Blake/Mrs Albert Biggs was younger than she was by 2 years, Susannah was older by 9 years. The census show the closeness of the Blake family and the closeness of their residence.

1910 Censes shows Thomasena at age 41 living as head of the household, owned the House free of mortgage and son Irwin age 12 with her (her husband was not in the home or her oldest son).

1920 Census, Thomasena is divorced. She is now 50 and her 2nd son Irwin G. Blake is living with her and age 22.

1929 her youngest living son, Irwin George Blake married Effie Wandaline Purnell a lady from Illinois. he and Effie had two children: Madaline Zoe Blake born Jan 1930 Madeline Zoe Blake (lived to age 77 but I have not record of marriage); and Thomas Irwin Blake born July 6, 1933(lived to the age of 26, death was on Lopez Island.)

June 10 or 12, 1946 - 26 years later, Thomasena has passed away in Monroe, Snohomish, Washington. Her former husband preceded her in death-he had died Feb 26, 1936 on Lopez. She had outlived him by 10 years but she was 5 years younger than he was. Also one of her babies preceded her in death: She left behind two sons and 5 grandchildren.

Records show that Thomasena Johnston-Blake was buried on Lopez Island Union Cemetery on Davis Bay Road, Plat 1, Plot M33 under the name of Sena Blake.
