Baldwin Ford Motor Company, Pilot Life Insurance, Monsanto Chemical Company, and Greenwood Mills; owning and operating his own restaurant; and eventually retiring from the security team at Avery Dennison Corporation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Joanna and the Magnolia Masonic Lodge #355. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Brenda Joyce Chandler Smith; and niece, Crystal Chandler. Surviving family members are his son, Dr. Jason A Smith; sister, Rita Smith Fernandes and husband, Raul of Massachusetts; nieces, Natalie Jordan, Julie Fernandes, Dorothy Bigham, Cheri Seawright, Mary Goodman, Jill Alverson, and Beth Goldsmith; and nephews, Tony Fernandes, Tommy Hazel, Johnny Goodman, Chucky Chandler, Buzzy Thomas, Eddie Thomas, and Joe Thomas.
